Description
The Dancing Pixies Saxifrage is a very versatile little grower for the miniature garden. It can be grown indoors and outdoors. It’s a forgiving plant with great foliage-color. It blooms the sweetest little flowers, it’s tough and hardy!
Check out the photos without the flowers and you can appreciate the year-round color-show. The bright pink underside of the leaves and the stems that simply sing with the deep, varying green colors of the foliage. Such fun in such a little plant.
The leaves grow bigger when they are happy – and smaller in the winter. The flowers pop-up from the the foliage and are just as happy and colorful.
AND this plant can be grown inside too.
- Mounding habit but seems to take awhile
- 4 to 6″ tall – taller when flowering
- Blooms in spring but I’ve found it blooms at other times as well
- Spreads to about 6 to 10″
- Pinch back dying leaves to keep it tidy
- Requires moist soil – shade will help with this
- Part sun – 4 to 6 hours of sun, avoid that hot afternoon sun
- Cold zones 5 through 7 or hardy to -30F
- Heat Zones 7 through 5
- Can be grown indoors with evenly damp soil
- Provide bright light, no direct sun
- Water it less in the winter, more in the spring and summer
- An outdoor and indoor plant
